A weekend trip to the Baltic Sea

Hillary here! For this blog post, I thought we’d do something a bit different—something that might even turn into a series where I share personal stories, interests, and tips.
As summer comes to an end, I wanted to share a seaside weekend destination that pleasantly surprised me, along with the jewelry pieces I chose to bring along!
Discovering Warnemünde: A Charming Seaside Escape on the Baltic Sea
My small family of three and I live in Germany. Before our baby, my husband and I traveled often and were fortunate to visit many beautiful cities. However, since our 22-month-old joined us, we haven’t traveled much. To be honest, we’re a bit nervous about our first airplane ride with a toddler… So, to ease our way back into traveling, we planned a short weekend trip to Warnemünde. This seaside resort is a district of Rostock in Mecklenburg, Germany, located on the Baltic Sea.
Funny story—in 2017, I made my first trip to the Baltic Sea, and I swore it would be my last. I hated every moment of it. Coming from Los Angeles, I found myself in a non diverse, seaside town in Germany, swarmed with senior citizens. It was a complete culture shock. I felt like an outsider, and with the looks of what felt like shock and confusion directed at me, I was treated as one. It was incredibly uncomfortable, and I vowed never to return.
Fast forward seven years, and I agreed to give the Baltic Sea another shot, but with one condition: we had to go to a different town, one my husband hadn’t visited before. My husband suggested Warnemünde, and I chose the Baltic Hideaway Beach Hotel (which was lovely, I might add), and we were on our way! We took a 2,5 hours ICE train there, and when we arrived, I was pleasantly surprised.
Warnemünde is such a charming town! I saw so many friendly faces and people from different backgrounds, and with that, I was ready to enjoy the weekend with my family. We spent two days and one night in this lovely place, eating lots of fresh seafood and spending most of our time at the beach. I think it’s safe to say we’ll be returning!
