A Copenhagen Travel Diary — and What I Wore Each Day
Copenhagen has always held a special place in my heart. We married there in February 2020, just weeks before the world closed. The sweetest, quiet little ceremony in city hall that, within our 15-minute slot, felt like we were the only couple that mattered.
This summer, we went back. As three.
Taking our son to the city where his parents became a family felt like something I hadn't quite prepared myself for emotionally. He doesn't know what Copenhagen means yet.
But he will. And until then, we got to see it completely through his eyes — the aquarium, the parks, the pigeons he chased that reminded us of the photo on our bedside table, pictured below.

Arrival
We arrived and did what you do when you arrive somewhere with a toddler: found the nearest park and let him run. Copenhagen is extraordinary for this — green, unhurried, designed as if children were part of the brief.

Where We Married
We took him to the place where we got married. I think he understood more than I expected — he announced, very seriously, that he would also like to get married one day. I told him he absolutely could. Then he ran in circles around the ground floor of city hall while my heart quietly came apart at how special the moment truly was.

The Streets We Know
We walked streets we had walked before — just the two of us, the first time. The same cobblestones, the same light. Different, because now we were three, and one of us was running ahead and needed to be retrieved from a doorway every four minutes.

The Aquarium
The aquarium was his idea, in the way toddlers have ideas — insistently and without context. He really wanted to see the sea turtles, so we went. He pressed his face against every tank. He pointed at things with a focus I recognised as my own.
The Last Morning
Our last morning we had breakfast at a bakery I'd been eyeing since we arrived. We discovered that my son loves soft boiled eggs (just like Peppa Pig), and met a lovely older couple from Australia who shared their parenting stories with us. We explored a little more, then headed to the airport to go home.
